Karma Market is dedicated to offering stylish, affordable and socially responsible gifts and goods enabling world artisans to earn a fair and stable income for their families.  We hope to accomplish this through Fair Trade.

Karma Market was born in San Diego, California one sunny Saturday morning during the Spring of 2006.

It was born out of a personal need.  A need for greater availability of Fair Trade gifts.

After spending half the morning on the internet looking for just the right meaningful and unique gift, I was dumbfounded by the limited choices we have for handmade, unique and fairly traded gifts. I really wanted more Fair Trade options and knew that I couldn’t be the only one. My friends and people like us with similar values and tastes must also be longing for gifts that have more meaning, uniqueness and positive social value – right?

This caffeine induced pondering of the state of Fair Trade turned into the realization that if I wasn’t going to do anything about it, who was? Sure there are wonderful people out there very passionate about Fair Trade, but just not enough.  I decided that I could start by making a small difference in the world by combining my interest in Fair Trade with my love for marketing, sales and creating. Voila - the beginnings of Karma Market.

After introducing Karma Market items to friends and family, it became crystal clear to me that many people are simply not aware of the benefits or even existence of Fair Trade.  This realization that there is a significant lack of awareness of Fair Trade turned into the second reason why I am so passionate about Karma Market.  There is great need to spread the word about the benefits of buying fair trade items; the ability to let your purchases reflect your values.

Our products are sourced from fair trade suppliers, mostly who are members of the Fair Trade Federation. This means that our goods come from companies who support artisans by providing them with a fair wage and helping them to become economically stable. Producers work in healthy and safe working conditions in the local context and there is often an emphasis on reinvesting in their communities and working to preserve the environment.

By purchasing an item from Karma Market, you not only help provide income, dignity, hope and respect to people in developing regions. You also help to sustain the communities and the environment of these deserving artisans.
